‘Happy to arrange his lunch too’: Punjab CM refutes AAP’s allegation of not allowing Kejriwal’s presser

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Monday denied allegations of the Aam Aadmi Party not allowing Arvind Kejriwal to hold a press conference in Chandigarh and called it a “drama”. Singh took a dig at his Delhi counterpart saying, “If he (Kejriwal) wants, I will be happy to arrange his lunch too.”

Taking to Twitter, he said, “Not entirely true. We had let Arvind Kejriwal address a rally here a few days back so why should we stop him from holding a press conference now? If he wants me, I can be found in his afternoon.” Will be happy to arrange food too. Aam Aadmi Party only wants to do drama, even if it means lying.”

Singh’s retaliation came hours after AAP’s state unit chief Raghav Chadha claimed that the Punjab Chief Minister’s Office has denied permission to the party to hold a press conference at a pre-determined venue.

Stating that Kejriwal will make a “mega announcement” in Chandigarh on Tuesday, Chadha tweeted, “Kejriwal’s fear of @capt_amarinder has reached a point where his office does not allow us to hold a press conference at a pre-determined venue.” Still, @ArvindKejriwal will make a mega announcement in Chandigarh that will send 440V current to the Captain and his party.”

Meanwhile, AAP leader Harpal Cheema said the party was looking for an alternative venue after Kejriwal was denied permission to hold a press conference at Punjab Bhawan. “We are looking for an alternate site,” he said.

Ahead of the assembly elections in Punjab next year, Kejriwal has promised that if his AAP wins, the state will get free electricity. A day before his Chandigarh visit, the AAP national convener also claimed that women in Punjab are very unhappy with the inflation.

“…in Delhi we provide 200 units of free electricity to every family. Women are very happy. The women of Punjab are also very unhappy with the inflation. AAP government will also give free electricity in Punjab. See you tomorrow in Chandigarh,” Kejriwal tweeted in Punjabi.

Punjab assembly elections are due in February or March next year.
