The past few weeks have been absolutely amazing as a total of 10 teams battle it out against each other for the trophy, bringing the group stage alive. Former Indian captain Mithali Raj was extremely impressed with the level of cricket displayed during the T20 World Cup 2023 in South Africa.

“The group stages of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 have shown how far the women’s game has come. All players now understand the importance of being a two and three dimensional player. Players with only one side are not desired in today’s game,” Raj told the ICC.

The former Indian skipper further said that the tournament helped many players develop their skills. Mithali said great batsmen like Meg Lanning and Smriti Mandhana can succeed in the game.

“Only players with exceptional talent like Meg Lanning, Smriti Mandanna and a few other exceptional batsmen can succeed, or Darcy Brown or Shabmin Ismail who can score 120-plus. Everyone else has developed their skills and added to their overall game,” she said.

“It is very exciting to think that we have two more T20 World Cups on the horizon. Till then the level of women will definitely go up two to three notches. All the players who have made it big on the international stage this time will be more experienced players by then. We have players like England’s Alice Capsey, India’s Richa Ghosh and Renuka Thakur, who may be a bit older but came into the team only last year.
