Maharashtra political crisis

among Political turmoil continues in MaharashtraChief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday called a meeting with Shiv Sena leaders to discuss the situation. The party’s national executive passed a resolution authorizing Thackeray to take action against the rebel MLAs. Earlier, the Shiv Sena has already given the names of 12 MLAs, including rebel camp leader Eknath Shinde, to the deputy speaker and is demanding their disqualification. Meanwhile, the rebel faction claims to have the support of more than 2/3 of the total Shiv Sena MLAs.

US abortion decision

The US Supreme Court on Friday overturned the landmark 1973 ruling of Roe v. Wade, which had established constitutional right to abortion, US President Joe Biden called the Supreme Court’s decision a “tragic error” as the decision drew sharp reactions from around the world. Wade, women had the right to an abortion based on their constitutional right to privacy over their bodies. By law, states cannot prohibit abortion on the viability of the fetus or the point at which the fetus can survive outside the womb.

BJP-led National Democratic Alliance candidate for Presidential election Draupadi Murmu files nomination on 24 June. Murmu was accompanied by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath and other senior NDA leaders. Former finance minister Yashwant Sinha will contest the presidential election as a joint candidate for other opposition parties, including Congress, Trinamool Congress, Samajwadi Party and others. Voting for the presidential election will be held on July 18, followed by counting of votes on July 21.

Assam floods

Ten more people died on June 24 in the devastating floods affecting 33.03 lakh people in 28 districts of Assam. Silchar town of Cachar district remained submerged in water for the fifth consecutive day. The death toll in Assam floods has risen to 118 since mid-May.

COVID-19 Updates

Indian recorded a total on June 25 15,940 fresh COVID-19 cases, The country saw a steady rise in its fresh COVID-19 infections from a seven-day average of 10,668 last week to 13,492. Thankfully, the number of daily recoveries has been encouraging as 12,425 patients recovered from the virus on Saturday.

Agnipath Protest

Amidst the concerns of Agneepath, Indian Air Force started the application process for the recruitment of candidates under this scheme, The government also announced 10 per cent quota in Central Armed Police Forces and Assam Rifles vacancies for Agniveers exiting the three services after four years in office. A 10 percent reservation for firefighters in jobs in the Defense Ministry and Defense Public Sector Undertakings was also announced.
