The last fuel price revision took place on July 17 when petrol rates in the national capital were increased by 30 paise per liter, while diesel remained stagnant. On Thursday, petrol consumers in New Delhi will have to pay Rs 101.84 per liter, while diesel consumers will have to pay Rs 89.87 per litre.

No change has been observed in the fuel prices for the month of August. Petrol price was raised nine times last month while diesel prices were hiked five times and reduced once. In the month of June, the prices of both petrol and diesel were increased 16 times. Similarly, fuel prices were hiked 16 times in May as well.

Oil marketing companies (OMCs) resumed revising fuel prices after ending their 18-day break with assembly elections in major Indian states. Petrol price in New Delhi has been hiked by Rs 11.44 for a liter, while diesel price has been increased by Rs 9.14 per liter ever since the revision in fuel prices has resumed.

Fuel consumers in Mumbai city continue to pay the highest price for petrol among the metropolitan cities of the country at Rs 107.83 per litre. The cost of one liter of diesel in the financial capital of the country is Rs 97.45. In Kolkata, a liter of petrol is being sold for Rs 102.08 and diesel for Rs 93.02.

Petrol prices have crossed the Rs 100 mark for a liter in at least 19 states and union territories since the re-introduction of fuel price revisions in May. In Jaipur, a liter of petrol is being sold for Rs 108.48 while a liter of diesel costs Rs 98.80.
