Fresh Covid cases drop, Omicron cases rise with 2.3L infections reported in last 24 hours

New Delhi: India’s Omron tally rose by 8.31 per cent to 8,891 since yesterday. The Covid-19 caseload has reached 17,36,628 with a jump of 2,38,018 fresh cases in the last 24 hours.

The number of deaths reported in the last 24 hours stood at 310 with 1,57,421 recoveries. The daily COVID positivity rate currently stands at 14.43 percent. And active cases are 4.62 percent of the total cases.

According to the Union Health Ministry, India’s cumulative COVID-19 vaccination coverage stands at over 158.04 crores as nearly 80 lakh vaccine doses have been given in the last 24 hours.

Maharashtra has reported 31,111 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, which is 10216 less than the previous day. The number of deaths recorded in the last 24 hours was 24. However, Mumbai has shown a decline in fresh cases by registering 5,956 new Covid-19 cases. Delhi, on the other hand, recorded 12,537 new Covid-19 cases with 24 deaths in the last 24 hours.

West Bengal Caseload

Meanwhile, West Bengal recorded 9,385 cases in the last 24 hours which is 5,553 less than Sunday’s count. The number of deaths recorded was 33. To contain the spread of the virus, the West Bengal government has extended the ban till January 31.

While marriages and other gatherings are allowed in a restricted manner, the night curfew and travel restrictions are still in place. All schools, colleges and other educational institutions are also closed till 31 January.

According to news agency PTI, the night curfew is in force in West Bengal from 10 pm to 5 am for health, law and order, transportation of essential commodities including agricultural produce and other emergency services.
