Fourth panel constituted to implement Clause 6 of Assam Accord. Guwahati News – Times of India

GUWAHATI: The Assam government has constituted another committee, the fourth in 36 years, to take forward the implementation of a clause Assam Accord of 1985 which promises to “protect, preserve and promote the culture, social, linguistic identity and heritage of the Assamese” and to update the NRC which is awaiting approval Supreme court.
The new eight-member committee will prepare a framework to implement the recommendations given by the panel constituted by the Ministry of Home Affairs for the implementation of Clause 6 of the Agreement, particularly relating to the protection of the cultural, social and linguistic identity and heritage of indigenous peoples, Which was handed over to the state government last year.
As per the notification issued by the Commissioner and Secretary, Implementation of Assam Accord Department, GD TripathiThe committee will submit its report in the next three months.
The notification said that the sub-committee “shall prepare a framework for the implementation of all clauses of the Assam Accord in general with special emphasis on Clause-6 (Report of the High Level Committee).” The sub-committee will lay special emphasis on “updation of the National Register of Citizens, issues of floods and erosion, rehabilitation of families of martyrs and victims of the Assam Movement along with implementation of clauses 7, 9 and 10.”
In addition, the sub-committee will consider various problems faced by the state and prospects of all-round economic development while preparing the report for the implementation of the landmark agreement.
The eight-member sub-committee is headed by the Minister of Implementation of the Assam Accord. atul bora. There are also two other ministers in the committee – Minister of Parliamentary Affairs. Piyush Hazarika and Finance Minister Ajanta Niyog – besides five members of AASU.
Whereas Clause 7 says, “The Government takes this opportunity to renew its commitment to the rapid all-round economic development of Assam, so as to improve the standard of living of the people. Education and Science through the establishment of national institutions and Special emphasis will be given on technology, “Another unfulfilled promise, Clause 9 provides for sealing of international border, intensifying patrolling on land and river routes, setting up adequate check posts to prevent future infiltration. and construction of a road along the border to facilitate patrolling by the security forces.”
