Conversation excerpts…

What has brought you to Bigg Boss 15?

It’s not a question of what brought me here, it’s about when I chose to do it. I have been interacting with the team for six-seven years, but we all know that Bigg Boss is a big commitment. Earlier, I would often get busy with something and I didn’t have dates. There was a apprehension about me and this show as well. However, this time everything went well.

What do you think will be the biggest challenge for you at home?

I think Bigg Boss is about challenges. This is one of the most watched shows and unless you work hard, you will not get noticed. It’s a show where you get stuck in close contact with a group of people. There will be difficult situations and pressures. It can be easy to break down and be weak, but that’s the challenge, and to be honest, no one can ever live up to it.

Given that you are a well-known face, do you think this would be an advantage in terms of votes, or could the expectations be overwhelming?

I am not doing the show to start or revive a career, I am here to entertain my fans. Yes, it is one thing to be a successful name but I am here for my audience. They love me for who I am, and honestly, I can’t even control what’s happening outside. So I can either concentrate and take every day as soon as I come, or I can worry about what people are thinking of me. I really don’t know what’s going to happen inside, so it’s nothing to worry about. Also, I think Bigg Boss is a show where you can win hearts by being yourself. So I may have profit for a week, but later it’s about my conduct.

We have seen you play many characters but what can we expect from the real Karan Kundrra? bigg boss 15?

I think I am going to surprise myself in the show. I have traveled the world and now is the time to introspect and find out who I am on the inside. Without a phone or friends, this would be an interesting experiment. Under normal circumstances we all have an image of ourselves and we behave in a certain way. However, it changes under pressure conditions. I want to know if I am the man I think I am. So apart from the audience, I am judging myself.

We have seen your reactive side when you slapped a contestant on Roadies. How are you going to control it on this show?

(laughs) If someone thinks they can slap their sister, they can’t. Also, whenever I stand up for someone else, I find myself in controversies. There is a rational reason for my actions. I get angry and take a stand when it’s worth it. If someone is doing something to annoy you, it doesn’t matter. However, when I am angry it is not easy at all to handle me.

Also, there was a lot of controversy due to your breakup with Anusha Dandekar. Looking at the format of Bigg Boss, what if your past is brought to the fore? Are you ready to face it?

From the very beginning of my career, I have been open about everything about my life. I chose this profession and never turned back. As for my past, everything I had to say is already out in the open, with nothing to hide. I don’t think these things will ever weaken me. I have always been an outspoken person. Whatever is happening for the last two years is old news.

And would you be ready to fall in love again, maybe on the show?

When you are under pressure and stuck with a person, they become your universe. I have always advised my contestants that emotions and adrenaline surge in such situations. Your equation with that person matters once you are out of that space. I am not in a state of mind to indulge in anything trivial or frivolous, so I don’t think there will be anything inside.

Your good friend Vikas Gupta is called ‘Bigg Boss ka mastermind’, he gave you any advice to avoid the game?

I talked to them, but we need to understand that we are very different people. We will react differently to situations and people. Bigg Boss is all about your connection and which no one can predict. I have taken every advice from Vikas, Aly Goni, Prince Narula and Yuvika Choudhary. They are all my friends who have done the show.

From your post after Siddharth Shukla, it seemed that you are talking about his success after Bigg Boss with friends. Did his journey have a hand in saying yes to the show?

I think Sidharth’s journey has been one of the most ambitious stories of Bigg Boss. The way he played and portrayed himself was totally different. He had his flaws and weaknesses and he never shied away from showing his true self. Siddharth being so fearless was his biggest strength and I think it has been one of the best journeys.

Apart from Karan Kundrra, Tejasswi Prakash, Pratik Sehajpal, Nishant Bhat, Shamita Shetty, Umar Riaz, Vidhi Pandya, Donal Bisht, Vishal Kotian, Afsana Khan, Simba Nagpal, Akasa Singh, Jay Bhanushali, Miesha Iyer, Sahil will be and Ishaan Sehgal seen in the Bigg Boss 15 house.
