Sources said the former DG ISI could be charged with corruption, political engineering and promoting terror

A senior Pakistani journalist by the name of Asad Ali Toor has claimed that the government has decided to arrest Lt Gen Faiz Hameed, former Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence. Sources said the former spy chief could be charged with corruption, political engineering and promoting terror.

According to sources, the decision on his arrest has not been taken under civil authority or army law. It is also believed that he was working for the previous army chief, General Qamar Javed Bajwa, whom former prime minister Imran Khan blamed for his sacking in April last year.

The sources said General Hameed was accused of allegedly inciting mutiny in the army, extortion, interference in politics as well as activities related to terrorism led by the Pakistani Taliban in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region as well as conspiring against the army. I will be arrested.

Attacks carried out by the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan have increased in the country following a ceasefire between the militant group and security forces last year.

The sources further said that the establishment has collected some serious evidence against General Hameed. A decision will be taken soon on when and how his arrest will happen, he added.

One of the key allegations against him is that he not only benefited financially from the TTP ceasefire, but when it was decided that he would not be the army chief, the organization broke the ceasefire, resulting in the killings.

cnn-news18 Had earlier reported that Parliament also wants to summon Hameed for his role in increasing incidents of terrorism in Pakistan.

Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif announced that General Hameed should be summoned to Parliament as he was “responsible for the growing militancy in Pakistan”.

Asif had said that he should be answerable for whatever he did and asked about his plans regarding TTP. The minister had also demanded that along with General Hameed, former PM Khan should also be summoned.
