Presently the rights were with only Kiran Clothing Limited, the parent brand of the company of Killer Jeans

Adidas, a leading sports apparel and equipment brand, is very close to getting the apparel rights for the Indian cricket team. Presently the rights of the company’s original brand of Killer Jeans were with Kiran Clothing Limited only. The adidas deal is expected to start from June this year and run till March 2028.

Ever since Killer Jeans came on board, nothing was seen as an ideal match for a company that doesn’t have any cricketing background in the mix. The board was keen to rectify this and possibly return to the days when a major sports brand like Nike was on the Indian team jersey.

The previous sponsor, Mobile Premier League (MPL), quickly pulled out of the deal and Killer Jeans went on as filler. Before MPL came on board, Nike had a five-year deal with BCCI during which they paid INR 370 Cr from 2016 to 2020.

mpl Play After this, a three-year agreement was signed from November 2020 to December 2023, but did not complete the tenure.

Adidas will increase the brand value

For the first time ever since the BCCI and Nike entered into a partnership, Indian cricket has taken away the bragging rights of having a top sports apparel brand as its partner after MPL and KILLER came on board.

The tie-up with MPL and Killer took away Indian cricket’s bragging rights of having a top sports apparel brand as its partner.

Adidas is now close to getting on board, the proverbial chip will soon be “back on the shoulder”.
