Haq Du Tehreek supporters took to the streets of Gwadar last year as they pointed out the unfulfilled promises of the state. During this a violent clash took place and a policeman died during the melee.

According to information received by CNN-News18, Pakistan Army’s Quetta Corps Commander Asif Ghafoor visited Gwadar and reviewed the situation after Haq Du Tehreek’s crackdown and arrests in the coastal city of Gwadar.

During his visit, Asif Ghafoor met the local leadership and administration of the area.

Sulaiman Baloch, a senior local leader from Gwadar Wajah, said, “The corps commander called us to meet him and said he would put everyone in jail if the port and airport were closed in the future.”

HDT supporters took to the streets of Gwadar last year as they pointed out the unfulfilled promises of the state.

After talks with the government broke down in late December, the administration and protesters faced violent confrontations.

A policeman died during the melee, resulting in the state going after the HDT leadership.

On 13 December, Maulana Hidayatur Rehman was arrested by a Gwadar court in connection with the murder and other cases.

Rehman had been leading a peaceful sit-in for the past two months in Gwadar demanding the abolition of unnecessary security checkpoints, a ban on illegal fishing and supply of clean water to the coastal city.

The movement started in September 2021 and gained wide popularity in the local body elections as well.
