Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Thursday said that in a democratic set up everyone has the right to promote his political party and work towards the development of the organisation.

He was replying to a question about Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray’s visit to Thane city during the day. This is Thackeray’s first visit to the city after parting ways with Shiv Sena last year. Thane is the home constituency of Shinde, who represents the Kopri-Pachhapkhadi assembly constituency in the district.

A Shiv Sena (UBT) spokesperson had earlier told reporters that on Thursday, Thackeray would inaugurate a mega medical camp organized by the party at Thane’s Shivaji Maidan on the eve of the birth anniversary of late Shiv Sena leader Anand Dighe. CM Shinde’s mentor

He will then pay floral tributes at the bust of Dighe at Tembi Naka near Ananda Ashram. Thackeray will then attend a function organized by the Jain community in the city.

Asked about Thackeray’s visit, Shinde said, “In a democracy, everyone has the right to campaign for his party and work for its expansion.” Hundreds of banners have been put up across the city to welcome Thackeray.

The Shiv Sena split in June last year following a rebellion by Shinde and his supporting MLAs. Thackeray resigned as Chief Minister due to a rebellion within the party. The Shinde-led group had joined hands with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on June 30 to form the government in the state.
