Gurugram: In a move that could benefit industries, Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (Corporation) has extended the date of exemption of surcharge on late payment for industrial sector. Discoms have also announced relief on fixed charges paid by industrial units. Power Consumed.
The order is in continuation of a similar order issued earlier this year. In a letter dated July 15, it has been said that the due date for payment of electricity bills without late payment surcharge was earlier till June 14, which has now been extended till the end of June. The letter further states that “the state government has decided to provide a relief package to the electricity consumers to mitigate the losses during the pandemic.”

A DHBVN official said, “For HT and LT supply consumers (industrial and commercial with load up to 20 kW), the prescribed charges will be waived if the monthly consumption during the months of April-June is 50% or less than 50%. ”
The move comes after demands made by industries and industrial associations seeking relief in fixed charges during the lockdown period as industry owners faced severe financial losses. Deepak Maini, a city-based industrialist and a member of the Federation of Indian Industries, said: “We welcome this step taken by the government to reduce the financial burden on industries. However, this decision would have been more beneficial if it had been taken a few months back when the industry was witnessing acute cash crunch. The state government has also announced marriage resolution scheme for industries and offered 100% rebate on penal interest.
Other industry representatives said that due to the condition of 50 percent or less power consumption, they will not benefit much from the exemption in fixed power charge.
