The Delhi High Court on Tuesday heard the petition of the Delhi State Legal Services Authority against actress Juhi Chawla in the 5G roll out case. In which it has been proposed to reduce the fine of Rs 20 lakh imposed on Juhi and two others to Rs 2 lakh. Not only this, the court also put a condition that being a celebrity, some work has to be done for the betterment of the society.

On behalf of Juhi, her lawyer Salman Khurshid had presented her side before the bench. A bench of Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Jasmeet Singh has issued a notice to the secretary of the Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA) seeking a reply on the appeal. The next hearing of the case will be on January 27.

Court placed a condition in front of Juhi
Court said- “We will not waive the full fine but we can reduce it from 20 lakhs to 2 lakhs. But we have one condition. Since your client is a celebrity, we want him to do something good for the society.”

The association had demanded the arrest of Juhi
Earlier, the Delhi State Legal Service Association had filed a petition against Juhi in the court that even after a lapse of more than 7 months, she had not deposited the fine amount, which she had to pay within 7 days. The Authority’s advocates Saurabh Kansal and Pallavi S Kansal had filed a petition to DSLSA for issuance of warrants for attachment and sale of Juhi Chawla’s movable and immovable properties for recovery of fine. He had also demanded the arrest of Juhi for not paying the fine. The same petition was heard on January 25.

Juhi accepted the court’s proposal
The bench asked Juhi’s lawyer Salman Khurshid, “Will she do this? She can organize an event for DSLSA here. People of the association will approach her. She can join and campaign.” To this Khurshid said that it would be an honor for him. Later Juhi also agreed to this and thanked the court for giving suggestions.

Regarding the appeal for exemption in payment of court fee, the High Court said that why should there be an exception. It is not that Juhi does not have money to pay the fees. Everyone pays the court fees. They have to follow the discipline of the court.

Notice also given to the association
On the other hand, while issuing notice to DSLSA, the Bench said that it is not inclined to issue notice to other respondents, observing that after the order of the Single Judge, the petition has been returned to the petitioners as their complaint is Rs 20 lakh. related to the payment.

this was the whole matter
In June last year, a single judge bench had termed the lawsuit against Juhi Chawla and two others against the 5G rollout as “misuse” of law. The bench had termed Juhi Chawla’s petition seeking a probe into its effect on humans and animals before the 5G technology was implemented, as a stunt to gain publicity. Was rejected imposing a fine of Rs 20 lakh.
