Covid tally: Delhi sees another drop in daily caseload, Mumbai reports 5,008 infections

New Delhi: Delhi continues to decline as COVID cases have come down from 12,306 to 10,756 in a day and in fact, the positivity rate has also come down from 21.48% to 18%. As per the data shared by the health department, the total death toll in Delhi stands at 25,541.

Earlier, Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Friday rejected the proposal of the Delhi government to remove the odd-even system of opening shops along with lifting the weekend curfew.

LG House agreed to 50 per cent attendance in private offices, but suggested that status quo be maintained with regard to weekend curfew and market opening. According to the report of news agency ANI, a decision on this subject will be taken after the situation of Kovid improves further.

Mumbai Covid Tally

Meanwhile, Mumbai recorded 5008 new cases on Friday, 700 fewer than the previous day, and 12 fresh deaths, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.

On the other hand, all schools in Mumbai, including pre-primary classes, will reopen on January 24. On Thursday, the Maharashtra government had allowed schools across the state to reopen on January 24 and empowered the local administration to take the final. However, the situation remains a matter of concern for the southern states of Karnataka and Kerala. Karnataka recorded an all-time high COVID numbers as it reported over 47,000 cases, of which 30,000 are from Bengaluru alone.

Kerala also sees a heavy caseload as over 40,000 cases have been registered as compared to yesterday, with the cases coming down from 46,000 to 41,000 in the last 24 hours. The Kerala government has imposed lockdown-like restrictions in the state on Sunday and will have to observe complete curfew on these two days on January 23 and 30.

India registered 3.47 lakh new cases in the last 24 hours, more than 29,000 new cases were reported from the day before.
