Covid-19 fourth wave scare: Tamil Nadu on alert as cases cross 1000

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Health Department is on high alert after the number of fresh COVID-19 cases in the state crossed the 1000 mark. However, the cases are not serious as the number of admissions across the state is very less. On Thursday, 1063 persons tested positive for Covid, and 35 of the state’s 38 districts reported new cases. The last time the state crossed the 1000-mark was on February 19 when 1,051 fresh cases were reported.

There has been an increase of 37 percent in new cases in the state as compared to the previous day. On Wednesday, the count of new Covid cases stood at 771.

The Test Positivity Rate (TPR) reached 4.6 per cent on Thursday, which is also an indication of the increasing number of new patients. kovid cases in tamilnadu,

Presently 5,174 persons are under treatment for COVID cases in the State.

Tamil Nadu Health Secretary P. Senthilkumar has already directed all district collectors and district health officials to remain alert and prepare themselves for any eventuality. While the number of fresh cases has increased, the number of deaths due to Kovid has not increased. Speaking to IANS, Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramaniam said, “The health department has already instructed all the district collectors to be alert as the cases of Kovid are increasing in the state. There is no need to worry, but we Have to be alert. Tight and alert.”
