Conscious effort to stop democratization of education: Manoj Jha on NEP

RJD’s Rajya Sabha MP Manoj Jha said on Tuesday that the national education Policy 2020 is against the spirit of the Constitution, and alleged that a conscious effort was underway to stop the democratization of education. Addressing a ‘student parliament’ at Jantar Mantar, Jha alleged that there was no discussion on the policy in Parliament.

“The document has not been presented in Parliament. Isn’t that dishonest in itself? There has been no discussion on NEP. When we tried to take up the matter during Zero Hour, it was not accepted, and we were told that it is a policy decision and there is no need for discussion,” the MP said. “NEP is not only against the interests of the lower class but also the middle class. We are here in solidarity that a conscious effort has been made to stop the further advance of democratization of education,” he said.

Jha alleged that there was no mention of social justice and affirmative action in the document. “This document is against the spirit and preamble of the Constitution. The document has erased the distinction between scholarship and loan,” he said.

Organized ‘Student Parliament’ All. was done by India student Union. AISA said that students from 25 universities across 15 states participated in the meeting demanding the withdrawal of NEP 2020.

CPI(ML) general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya alleged that the new policy would only help the coaching industry flourish. He said this would lead to privatization, centralization and saffronisation of education.

Hindu College professor Ratan Lal said the education policy would affect both students and teachers. “Professors will also suffer because of this policy. For this we all should fight. We must stand together to oppose this policy,” he said.
