The Indian Institute of Medical Research (ICMR) has revealed in a study that the delta variant of corona can infect vaccinated people as well. However, the risk of death in these people is low. The study conducted in Chennai found that the delta variant or B.1.617.2 was the same between vaccinated and non-vaccinated.

The study has been approved by the Institutional Ethics Committee of ICMR-National Institute of Epidemiology, Chennai. It was published on August 17 in the Journal of Infection. The ICMR has also cited other studies in its report, which have said that after infection with the delta variant, the strength of antibodies has decreased in those taking Kovashield and Covaccin. According to this, this may be the reason for breakthrough infection in fully vaccinated people.

The number of people who are seriously ill among vaccinated people is low
National Institute of Epidemiology scientist Jerome Thangaraj was involved in this study. He said that the samples were taken less. Also, cases of re-infection were not included in this. However, such cases were found in small numbers. It was also not clear whether people who became infected after vaccination had applied CoviShield or Covaccine, but the number of people who got seriously ill and died was low among vaccinated people.

Not a single case of death in people who have been fully vaccinated
The report said that not a single case of death was found among people who had been fully vaccinated. At the same time, three patients who got one dose and 9 people who did not get the vaccine died. After the study was completed, its data was shared with the Tamil Nadu Health Department in May. It suggested that rapid vaccination would have to be continued to prevent infection.

The three most affected areas of Chennai are included in the study
Chennai was one of the worst affected cities during the second wave of Corona in the country. In the first three weeks of May this year, more than 6 thousand new cases were found here every day. People from the three most affected areas of the city were included in the study.
