Mysore: First batch of MBBS students Chamarajanagar Institute of Medical Sciences (peaks) is expected to graduate in early April. In the first convocation organized by the college, 136 students will be awarded their degrees.
Sanctioned by the then government in 2014, the college in the border district welcomed its first batch of students in 2016-17. After completing their mandatory period of internship, 136 students will finally be awarded their degrees. The medical college in the border district came after a years-long battle by the residents. It took almost two decades to make people’s dream come true. Among the many attractive features of CIMS is that the students’ hostel is on the same campus as the hospital, ensuring that the entire establishment functions as a unitary facility.
Though the sanctioned strength of each batch is 150, the college admitted only 145 students in the first batch. Of the 145 students, while 136 have cleared all their exams and will soon get their degrees, nine others have yet to clear all their exams, delaying their graduation.
85% of the 145 students enrolled in the first batch belonged to KarnatakaSome of them were from Chamarajanagar, while the remaining 15% of the batch were from other parts of the country. Manthan, among those who are the first to graduate from CIMS, was a little apprehensive about the reception at the college, given that he was from Gujarat. “I never felt like I was an outsider. I was able to assimilate myself with the people and the place. I had the best experience. The training I got during my internship was invaluable, and the teachers of CIMS are all experts, providing quality education,” Manthan told TOI.
Dean And Dr Sanjeev, Director, CIMS told TOI that the first convocation of the college filled him with enthusiasm and a sense of accomplishment. “Graduation students are eligible to be employed in the capacity of Assistant Medical Officers,” he said.
