Mysuru: Five patients have been saved by donating heart, two kidneys, liver and cornea by a woman.
Savita Nanjangud resident N, 40, was admitted Apollo BGS Hospital In the city on February 18 with a complaint of basal ganglia hemorrhage. He had a craniotomy. As his condition worsened, he was shifted to ICU for life support and intensive care. She was put on life support system for two days while she was in critical condition. He was declared brain dead on 9 March due to brain stem failure.
As Savita was healthy before the incident and further tests confirmed her eligibility for organ donation, her family was consulted for organ donation. The hospital said her husband came forward to donate her organs. As per the organ donation protocol, the officials of Jiva Sarthakthe started the process as per the waiting list of organ recipients.
On Wednesday evening, Savita’s organs were amputated. Heart was sent to Narayana Health, Bangalore through the Green Corridor. was sent to a kidney Sparsh Hospital, yeshwantpur, Bengaluru while another was transplanted to a patient at Apollo BGS Hospital. cornea donated Mysore Eye Bank. Bharathisha Reddy, Vice President and Unit Head, Apollo BGS Hospital, Mysuru, said that a total of 300 transplants, including liver and kidney, are performed at the hospital.
