Chief Ministers of Delhi, Punjab, Odisha and Goa announce mega schemes on Independence Day

New Delhi: The Chief Ministers of Delhi, Punjab, Odisha and Goa on Sunday took different initiatives for the citizens on the occasion of 75th Independence Day of the country.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced the introduction of ‘patriotic’ curriculum in government schools from September 27 and yoga classes in residential areas from October 2.

Kejriwal said government schools in Delhi will start teaching ‘patriotic’ courses from September 27 as a tribute to freedom fighter Bhagat Singh.

“It will be an activity-based curriculum in which school children will be taught how to contribute to the development of the country and how to discharge their ‘Surya’ and be ready to sacrifice their lives for the country,” he said.

In his Independence Day address at Delhi Secretariat, Kejriwal paid tributes to freedom fighters as well as doctors, nurses and paramedics who lost their lives while serving the people during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Addressing the people after unfurling the tricolour, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh pledged to protect the state from the nefarious designs of Pakistan.

“We want peace but will not tolerate any attack or attack on our territory,” he said. Any threat to Punjab would mean a threat to the whole of India.

The Punjab Chief Minister also promised to continue the fight with the farmers for repeal of the central government’s agricultural laws.

Meanwhile, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced that his government will provide smart health cards to 3.5 crore people in the state under the Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana.

Patnaik said that this initiative will usher in a new era in the health sector of Odisha.

Stating that Odisha is the first state in the country to provide such smart health cards, he said the initiative will cover 3.5 crore people in 96 lakh families in a phased manner.

“The news of people selling land and valuables or having their children kicked out of schools to manage the cost of their treatment pains me. Therefore, I have tried to address this kind of crisis and help people in the best available health care facilities. Has decided to provide hassle-free treatment to the Addressing the state program on the occasion of 75th Independence Day, said.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on his part announced that the state government will provide free tap water to all the residents of the state from September this year.

In his speech on the 75th Independence Day, Sawant said that residents would be given 16,000 liters of water free of cost every month.
