If a passenger wants to travel from Bhubaneswar to Rourkela (about 335 km) in a normal bus, he will have to pay Rs 291 from Saturday, as against Rs 308 earlier. This fare is now Rs 305 for Express Bus, Rs 419 for Deluxe. Rs 513 for class, AC deluxe and Rs 797 for super premium class buses.
Debendra Sahu, General Secretary private bus owners association, said that the bus fare has been reduced as per the automatic fare revision mechanism. “For every Rs 2 increase in fuel prices, bus fares are increased by one paise. If the price of diesel comes down, it works in reverse also.”
He said that both the central and state governments should reduce excise duty and VAT on diesel to further bring down the prices of petrol and diesel for the benefit of common people.
On October 16, the fares for ordinary and express class buses were increased by three paise per kilometer, while the fares for deluxe and AC deluxe buses were increased by six paise per kilometer. The fare of super premium class buses has been increased by 9 paise per kilometer.
