Bhubaneswar: The BJP on Sunday hit out at the state government for indefinitely delaying the urban local body.ULB) Election.

BJP state unit president Sameer Mohanty said, “Government officials are managing everything in the ULB as there is no elected representative. ULB elections are yet to be held. There is no one to take care of the problems of the people. It is dangerous for democracy. state government and state election commission (seconds) should immediately take steps to hold civic elections.”
The party’s state spokesperson Pitambar Acharya said the SEC has written a letter to the state government to hold panchayat elections without informing anything about the ULB elections. “If the commission does not move the High Court to hold the ULB elections, the BJP will move the High Court on the issue within seven days,” he said.
He said impeachment motion could be moved Parliament Against SEC for not holding ULB elections in the state. “The SEC is working under the state government, forgetting its constitutional duties,” he said.
Acharya said that both Panchayat and ULB elections need to be held soon. “We have seen that the Election Commission of India conducts general elections or state assembly elections on time, but why is the SEC taking so long for ULB elections? We will meet the SEC on Monday and discuss the matter.”
State Election Commissioner Aditya Prasad Padhi said he would look into the allegations leveled by the BJP before commenting on the matter.
