Bihar Police seizes country liquor from ambulance donated by BJP MP

Bihar Police on Tuesday recovered country liquor from an ambulance donated by a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP (MP) from Saran constituency. Police have seized the ambulance being used to smuggle liquor.

According to Saran police, acting on a tip-off, the officials of Bhagwan Bazar police station stopped the ambulance for checking and recovered illicit liquor.

“We had received a tip-off that an ambulance donated by Saran MP Rajeev Pratap Rudy is being used for smuggling illicit country liquor. On receiving the inputs, a team was formed to check all the vehicles entering and exiting our jurisdiction,” said a senior officer of Bhagwan Bazar police station.

The officer further added, “During checking we recovered around 280 liters of liquor from the ambulance. We arrested the driver of the vehicle and confiscated the ambulance.

The driver of the ambulance told the police during interrogation that the vehicle was being managed and operated by the panchayat head. Bhagwan Bazar police station in-charge Mukesh Kumar Jha said, “As per the details provided by the driver, we are probing the role of the panchayat head.

The officer-in-charge further said that the liquor bottles were packed in six sacks and hidden under the sheets of the ambulance.

An FIR has been registered against Jaiprakash Singh, the head of Kotwa Rampatti Panchayat and the driver at Bhagwan Bazar police station.

The confiscated ambulance was bought by Rajiv Pratap Rudy in 2019 from the MPLAD fund. He later handed over the vehicles to the panchayat chiefs so that the patients could be taken to the nearest health facilities.

The opposition has claimed on several occasions that ambulances purchased under MPLAD funds are being misused. Former MP Pappu Yadav has been vocal against this. He had earlier said that ambulances were being used to carry out illegal activities.
