Bhumi Pednekar: I am looking for love but not looking for it. Unique

Bhumi Pednekar has carved a niche for herself as an actor who loves to be associated with progressive cinema. From her debut film, Dum Laga Ke Haisha (2015), to her latest, Badhaai Do, Bhoomi has consistently been a part of stories that question archaic social norms and fight for gender equality.

In real life too, the 32-year-old likes to break stereotypes and stand up for what she feels strongly about. Bhumi is associated with Bumble’s campaign in India to raise awareness of the ‘romance gap’ – the discrepancy in the expected behavior of men/masculine people projecting people and women/women in dating and relationships.

She believes that men shouldn’t always take the first step in a romantic relationship, a woman can handle things too. She says, “The romance gap is really something we’ve subconsciously accepted and adjusted to. Women are supposed to be ‘delicate darlings’ or ‘Virgos in crisis,’ but I think this notion We need to break beyond gender biases and archaic expectations. There is an interesting concept called The Equity Theory of Love, which means that people are more satisfied in relationships in which both parties give equally And have to take.”

Talking about gender role expectations in dating and relationships in a country like India, Bhumi says she is there for women to speak their mind or take charge without hesitation to make decisions. “Bumblebee urges women to take the first step and that is empowering to me. In a world where bold moves are dominated by men, it is refreshing to see an entity that empowers women to initiate conversations and express their feelings. So, this collaboration is something that also resonates with me as a person,” she says.

What does Bhumi suggest in relationships to bridge this gap? “It’s all about the way you approach something, the mindset and attitude. When you feel entitled, whether it’s a man or a woman, you take your relationship lightly. Feel genuinely grateful to bond and want to have a long term relationship, then you will treat your partner in a right and appropriate manner. It is only when you are too self-obsessed that toss in the equanimity romance Hence, conscious efforts have to be made to bridge the gap in romance and nurture the relationship.”

Are you looking for love and is it on your wish list this year? “Of course looking for love, but not looking for it. That’s when it happens. But love that is empowering and comforting. It helps me shine,” she explains.

The actress has won rave reviews with her latest release Badhaai Do, where she plays a lesbian woman. When asked if she feels the relationship dynamics are different in same-sex relationships, Bhumi says, “I think the dynamics between two people in love remain the same. that’s the point. love is love. Your sex or gender preference doesn’t change its ethos.”

Bhumi started the year with Badhaai Do, and has several releases in the line for it. “I have Govinda (Mera Naam) and Kiara (Advani) with Vicky Kaushal, Raksha Bandhan with AK (Akshay Kumar) sir, Raksha Bandhan with Rajkummar Rao and Bhaksh, many that I am still shooting for,” she shared does.
