An NSPCC survey found that two out of three people believe that smoking a child is wrong and should be outlawed in England.

Wales is today introducing legislation to ban corporal punishment of children. Scotland imposed its ban 16 months ago.

An NSPCC survey of 3,000 adults in England found that 64 percent were in favor of outlawing smoking – while 36 percent were against it.


An NSPCC survey found that two out of three people believe that killing a child is wrong and should be outlawed in England.

The charity said its Childline service has given children more than 500 counseling sessions about corporal punishment.

A 16-year-old girl told the counselor, ‘Maybe it was a fair smack or there was an occasion when [mum] Pulled my hair and I fell on the floor and he hit me continuously.

‘I don’t want to upset my mother, but I can’t be afraid of her.’

Research from University College London has found that corporal punishment is ‘ineffective and harmful’ and can increase children’s aggression.

Welsh law would now see this as an attack.
