A massive search operation was launched to trace two unidentified men seen near the site of the shootout, in which four jawans were killed

Police on Friday said it is coordinating with the Army in connection with the killing of four soldiers at the Bathinda military station earlier this week, but there has been no breakthrough.

Army soldiers were martyred in their sleep in the firing that took place in their barrack in the early hours of Wednesday.

The next day, the military reported the death of another soldier from a gunshot wound on the same grounds, but said it was not connected to the initial case. Officials suggested that it could be a case of suicide or accidental firing.

A massive search operation was launched to trace two unidentified men seen near the site of the shootout in which four jawans were killed.

But there is no success reported.

Bathinda Cantonment SHO Gurdeep Singh said, “No leads have been found so far. We are coordinating with Army officials.”

When contacted, another Bathinda police officer said, “There is no further update other than the facts of the case which are already in the public domain.” According to the FIR, a jawan saw two unidentified men, dressed in white kurta-pyjama, with their faces and heads covered with cloth, coming out of the barrack after firing.

According to the FIR, one of them had an INSAS rifle and the other had an axe.

The FIR states that on seeing the jawan, the suspects moved towards a wooded area near the barrack.

Later, two army officers went inside the barrack and found Sagar Banne (25) and Yogesh Kumar J (24) lying in a pool of blood. The bodies of Santosh M Nagral (25) and Kamlesh R (24) were found in another room.

There were marks of bullets on the bodies. It is suspected that an INSAS rifle, reported missing with 28 rounds earlier this week, was used in the firing.

19 empty kiosks of INSAS rifle have been found from the spot. Later the weapon was also found.
