Babil reveals father Irrfan Khan’s reaction when he said he wanted to be an actor, addresses nepotism debate

Many stars are set to make their debut this year, and one actor that the audience is looking forward to seeing on screen is Babil. The elder son of late actor Irrfan Khan already has a few projects in hand, and some are expected to release this year itself. Now, in a recent interview, he revealed what was Irrfan Khan’s reaction when he told him that he wanted to make acting his career.

In an interview with GQ, Babil revealed that the moment he mustered up the courage to tell his father that he wanted to be an actor like him, he said, “You’re screwed.” Babil recalled that Irrfan Khan told him, “I am really good at what I do. You have to be very, very good at it.”

Babil also revealed that the time he spent with Irrfan Khan especially from 2018 to 2020 has been extra memorable. “We developed a very sacred bond. He never taught me acting. He taught me about life, about living freely and fearlessly, about experiencing everything, even if it means going through pain. He wanted me to be captivated by everything and surrender to the reality of the moment. He used to say, ‘Feel everything.’ And then tell me, ‘Whatever you have experienced, bring it into your performance’, he quipped.

He also addressed the issue of nepotism, which has been a matter of debate over the years, and was not averse to saying that he was aware of his privileges. “Pressure is a privilege in itself. Expectations from me are a sign of my privilege. Either you can beat yourself up and feel guilty for it or accept it politely and put it to work. I have chosen the latter. I am grateful for opportunities that I know others will not get as easily as I have. If I cannot use my privilege and justify it through my craft, it will be such a waste,” he said.

Babil is all set to make its debut with the Netflix project Kaala. It will also star Tripti Dimri and Swastika Mukherjee. He also has Shoojit Sircar’s upcoming film and The Railway Men in hand where he will share the screen with R Madhavan, KK Menon and Divyendu.
