new Delhi: In view of a significant drop in new cases of COVID-19 infection, the Himachal Pradesh government on Thursday issued an order to withdraw all restrictions for the prevention of coronavirus in the state.
The official notification issued by the Himachal Pradesh government further stated that the use of masks and hand hygiene will continue to guide the state’s overall response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
It may be noted that several other states including Delhi, Rajasthan, UP, Maharashtra, Jammu and Kashmir have already lifted most of the Covid-induced restrictions in view of the sharp drop in new cases.
On Thursday, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) decided that in view of the significant drop in the number of fresh COVID-19 cases in the national capital, there will be no penalty for not wearing face masks in public places.
Sources said that during a meeting chaired by Lieutenant Governor (LG) Anil Baijal, there was agreement among all the participants regarding lifting of all COVID-related restrictions, even though the DDMA is yet to issue an order in this regard.
However, most of the restrictions related to COVID have already been lifted by the authorities. Sources said the DDMA may issue an advisory for people asking them to wear masks in crowded places.
At present, there is a fine of Rs 500 for not wearing a mask in public places in Delhi. The Center had earlier advised states and union territories to consider discontinuing COVID containment measures in view of the sharp decline in the number of fresh cases in the country.
The decision to lift the ban in Delhi was taken at a meeting of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, his deputy Manish Sisodia, Chief Secretary Vijay Dev and senior officials of the departments concerned.
With the increase in the number of coronavirus cases due to its Omicron variant in December last year, the Delhi government had imposed several restrictions. The restrictions were gradually lifted once the situation returned to normal and, finally, the restrictions were lifted from February 28. However, the rule regarding wearing of masks in public places including buses and metro trains continued.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) also said on Thursday that no penalty will be imposed for not wearing face masks in public places with effect from April 1, 2022.
However, the civic body appealed to the people to voluntarily use masks as the pandemic has not ended completely. In the last two years, the civic body had deployed its cleaning marshals in public places to effectively implement the mask mandate.
“Currently, since the infection and spread of coronavirus is under control, restrictions imposed due to coronavirus infection are being relaxed. Therefore, if a citizen does not wear a mask in the Greater Mumbai area, a fine of Rs 200 will be levied ” will not be charged,” the BMC release said.
Notably, the Maharashtra government had said earlier in the day that the mask mandate would be withdrawn from April 2.
