Uttar Pradesh: In a dramatic turn, Ayesha Noori, sister of gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed and Ashraf Ahmed, has moved the Supreme Court seeking a comprehensive probe headed by a retired judge or an independent agency into the alleged ‘extrajudicial killings’ by the government . According to reports, Nori has also demanded an inquiry into the encounter killing of his nephew and Atiq Ahmed’s son.

Gangster-turned-politicians Atiq Ahmed and Ashraf Ahmed were shot dead in police custody in Prayagraj district of Uttar Pradesh on 15 April.

UP police charge sheet names gangster Atiq Ahmed, brother Ashraf

The Uttar Pradesh Police in its charge sheet filed on Friday (May 26) named slain gangster Atiq Ahmed and his family as accused in the Umesh Pal murder case. On February 24, Umesh Pal and his two police security guards were shot dead outside their residence in Prayagraj’s Dhumanganj area. In this case, many shooters including the entire family of Atiq Ahmed have been made accused.

Based on Jaya Pal’s complaint, a case was registered on February 25 against gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed, his brother Ashraf, wife Shaista Parveen, two sons, aides Guddu Muslim and Ghulam and nine others. On March 28, the MP-MLA court convicted Atiq Ahmed and two others in the 2006 Umesh Pal kidnapping case and sentenced them to life imprisonment.
