Assam, Meghalaya to take steps to settle inter-state border disputes in six areas by December-end

Assam and Meghalaya on Tuesday announced that they will take necessary measures to settle inter-state border disputes in at least six areas by the end of this year. Addressing a joint press conference in Guwahati, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his Meghalaya counterpart Konrad Sangma said Boundary committees formed earlier Will submit its report by November 30 to find a solution.

The two chief ministers visited a disputed site at Langpih in Kamrup district earlier in the day. “The committees will present the report to their respective state governments, who will then speak to the stakeholders. After that, a clear picture will emerge and a final statement will be issued,” Sangma said.

Sarma further said that both the states have formed three committees each to resolve the problems at six of the 12 disputed sites in Kamrup, Kamrup Metropolitan and Hailakandi districts. “In the first phase, we are looking to address the problems at six locations. Moving with enthusiasm and speed, we want to issue a final statement by December 30.”
