Officials said the NDRF was taken to Cachar in Assam’s Barak Valley for rescue operations as the flood situation in Assam remained grim on Tuesday with the Brahmaputra and Barak rivers as well as its tributaries in spate and about 48 Lakhs of people have been affected. Relief materials were distributed to the affected people who have not taken shelter in relief camps through 615 temporary relief distribution centers and points opened by the government. Of the total 233 camps in Kaziranga National Park, 42 ​​have been submerged in the flood waters. Eight animals have died so far due to drowning and being hit by vehicles, while 12 including nine pigs and three pythons have been rescued by forest officials. Officials said 14 of the total 25 camps in Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary were inundated, though no animal casualty was reported so far.
