Guwahati: Assam on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding with National Dairy Development Board ,nddbThe target is to process 10 lakh liters of milk per day through six new milk processing units in seven years for overall dairy development in the state through a joint venture company worth Rs 2000 crore.
Under this arrangement, 15,000 more milking Gir cows of Gujarat will be included in the state to ensure higher returns to dairy farmers besides generating huge employment at various levels of the milk value chain.
“This will benefit over 1,75,000 dairy farmers of Assam and increase their income,” the chief minister said. Himanta Biswa Sarma, who attended the MoU signing ceremony here with the Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Purushottam Rupala,
Six dairy processing facilities will be set up across Assam where milk from over 4100 dairy cooperatives will be processed, packaged and marketed. The scheme also envisages establishment of infrastructure for animal feed and silage manufacturing within the state. The State Government will ensure financial assistance and assistance for the planned intervention of this joint venture through the concerned departments in collaboration with the Government of India under various schemes of the Government.
This joint venture will also be directed, mentored and managed by NDDB, which will also bring in tried and tested technological innovations like sex-sorted semen, ration balancing programme, ethno veterinary medicine, manure management projects etc.
