As the ‘Long and Prosperous’ of the World, India May Resolve on Its Vision at G7

Many will look at the G7 invitees and wonder if India ‘Shadow’ is going. After all, who can stand the might of the rich and powerful world leaders like Britain, America, France and Germany? But India and the country have made it clear in many international fora that it will go its own way.

World leaders look to PM at G7 summit Narendra Modi With some apprehension. Because they want such things from India which it has refused to give till now. One of these demands is to stop Russian oil imports or at least reduce it substantially, and the other is to issue a strong statement against Russia.

The US, Canada and the UK have already banned oil imports from Russia and EU leaders have agreed to a ban that will take effect from 2022. But as energy and fuel prices rise, these sanctions have not worked against Russia and put little dent on it. As luck would it it survives on its exports.

In several international fora, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar has called it the ‘hypocrisy of the West’. As he said earlier, “Europe must break out of the mindset that Europe’s problems are the world’s problems, but the world’s problems are not Europe’s problems.”

India confronts the world with its suggestions: Why not allow free flow of Venezuelan oil? But this is where India claims that the hypocrisy of the West comes to the fore.

Another issue on which India is facing pressure is on the export of wheat.

Many countries have condemned our decision to stop the export of wheat, except those that were already stocked at ports. India has been blamed for the food crisis in the world and we have rejected this claim.

India has said that we would love to help countries deal with their food crisis, but wheat exports from India show that our neighbors like Sri Lanka, Bangladesh need it the most.

A top government official told News18, “The PM has said that we want to help people with food, but not at the cost of those who need it the most. The fact is that our wheat exports have been misused and we want to use it to take advantage of our growing power.

So while the food security talks are underway at the G7 summit, India is expected to stand firm on our policies on Ukraine-Russia and wheat and stand with the mighty countries.
