The hearing, which will be attended by senior European Commission officials and national competition authorities, Apple executives and complainants, comes nine months after the EU competition watchdog accused the company of abusing its market power.

The commission declined to comment. Apple cited its statement last year that said Apple Pay was one of many options available to European consumers and that ensured equal access to its Tap and Go technology near-field communication (NFC).
If found guilty of antitrust violations, the company could face fines of up to 10% of its global turnover. It is also the target of EU accusations of abusing its dominance in the music streaming market, in a case triggered by a complaint from Spotify. There is no EU decision yet on that matter.
