Anurag Kashyap’s Kennedy Starring Sunny Leone, Rahul Bhatt To Be Screened At Cannes 2023

Mumbai: Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap’s film ‘Kennedy’ has been selected to screen at the upcoming edition of the Cannes Film Festival. The official line-up of the 2023 Cannes Film Festival was unveiled on Thursday and Kashyap’s film finds a name in the list. The film will be part of the midnight screening section of the festival, which will run from May 16-27.

A post on the official Twitter handle of the Cannes Film Festival read, “Kennedy #SeanceDeMinuit / #MidnightScreenings #Cannes2023 by Anurag Kashyap.”

Kashyap also shared the update with his fans and followers on social media.

Kennedy stars Sunny Leone, Rahul Bhatt and Abhilash Thapliyal. Details about the film have been kept under wraps.

Thierry Frémaux, the festival’s longtime director, revealed the official selection at a press conference with Iris Knobloch, president of the upcoming festival, at the UGC Normandy Theater in Paris.

“We saw over 2,000 films. These numbers are extraordinary and, at the same time, reflect the health of world cinema and the aspiration to make films everywhere,” Fremaux told the packed conference. He also commended the wide international scope of the competition which featured fewer French films. The French competition entries include ‘The Passion of Dodin Bouffant’, a period romance directed by Tran Anh Hung and starring Juliette Binoche and Benoit Magimel.

Freemax said the official selection is not closed, with more films expected to be unveiled in the coming days. Some of the films rumored to potentially pop up at the festival include Ladz Lee’s “Les Miserables” as well as Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Poor Things.”

“Maven’s Jean du Barry, starring the director alongside Johnny Depp, will open the festival on May 16. The edition will have an Italian flavor with the latest films from Nanni Moretti (“The Son of the Future”), Marco Bellocchio (” Variety tweeted, “Rapito”) and Rohrwacher, who were in competition with “The Wonders” and “Happy as Lazaro,” which won the jury prize and screenplay prize, respectively.

In addition to “Four Daughters,” the competition also includes “Jeunesse,” another politically-minded documentary made by Chinese director Wang Bing, who previously accompanied “Dead Souls” to Cannes.

The director also has ‘Man in Black’ at the special screening. Wenders, Palme d’Or-winner for “Paris, Texas,” is back in the hunt with “Perfect Days,” one of two films he’ll be screening at Cannes.
