Alt News co-founder Zubair gets bail: Relief given in case of tweet on Hindu deity, but will have to remain in jail due to other cases

The Delhi Court on Friday granted bail to Alt News co-founder Mohammad Zubair. This bail has been given in the case of tweet made on Hindu deity in 2018. But, Zubair will have to remain in jail for now, as there is no relief in other cases pending against him.

On June 27, Zubair was arrested by the Delhi Police on charges of inciting religious sentiments and causing hurt. The trial court sent him to police custody on the same day.

Also accused of receiving funds from abroad
Earlier, cases were registered against Zubair for inciting riots, hurting religious sentiments. After this, the Delhi Police also accused him of destroying evidence, criminal conspiracy. After this, a case was also registered against him under this Act for receiving funds from abroad.

7 FIRs on Zubair, 6 of them in UP
Zubair had gone to the Delhi court for bail in the 2018 tweet case. But, in the case of hurting religious sentiments, he was sent to judicial custody for 14 days by the Hathras Court of Uttar Pradesh on July 14, that is, till July 27, Zubair will remain in jail. 7 FIRs have been registered on Zubair. Of these, 6 are in UP. They are in custody in cases registered in Delhi, Sitapur, Hathras and Lakhimpur. He is yet to get bail in these cases.

Zubair had also gone to the Supreme Court for bail in all the cases registered in UP. He had said that the trial should be run in Delhi by combining all the cases. He had sought interim bail in cases registered in Uttar Pradesh.

No relief from High Court
His lawyer had said, “My client is getting death threats. In such a situation, it is necessary to hear it from the point of view of their safety.

There is a case of controversial tweet related to 2018
Rashtra Swabhiman Dal founder Deepak Sharma had filed a case against him. The matter is related to the tweet related to 2018. It was said in the complaint that Zubair keeps making indecent remarks against deities on social media. He hurts the sentiments of Hindus by posting controversial pictures.
