Sri Lankan Airlines plane makes emergency landing at Chennai airport

A Chennai-Colombo-bound Sri Lankan Airlines flight made an emergency landing at the Chennai airport today (July 15) after the pilot detected a technical snag in the aircraft. The aircraft (UL121), while near the city, had a technical fault. The island nation has been going through turmoil recently after Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled to Singapore following massive protests over his country’s economic slowdown.

Chennai airport sources told IANS that soon after the fault was detected, the pilot contacted Air Traffic Control (ATR) and all emergency protocols were put in place on the runway.

Sources said ambulance service and crash tenders were put up on the sides of the runway. Chennai airport sources told IANS that no other service from Chennai was affected by the emergency landing.
