Alec Baldwin turns on cellphone to investigate ‘Rust’ shooting – Times of India

actor alec baldwin His lawyer and law enforcement officer said Friday that he has handed over his cellphone to investigators who are looking into the fatal shooting on the New Mexico set of the film “Rust” in October.

A search warrant was issued for Baldwin’s iPhone in December. The Santa Fe County, New Mexico, sheriff’s office said earlier this week that it was still trying to obtain equipment from the “30 Rock” actor.

On Friday, Sheriff’s Department spokesman Juan Rios said via email that Baldwin’s phone had been handed over to officers in Suffolk County, New York, who were in the process of downloading relevant data to send to investigators in Santa Fe.

Baldwin was rehearsing a scene on the set of the western “Rust” when he fired a live shot while holding a gun that killed cinematographer Helena Hutchins. The actor has said that he did not pull the trigger and is saddened by the incident.

According to court documents, the search warrant authorized investigators to seize Baldwin’s phone to examine text messages, emails, social network communications, browser activity and other information stored on the device.

Baldwin’s attorney, Aaron Dyer, confirmed that the actor had provided his phone to officers on Friday.

“But it’s not his phone and there’s no answer on his phone. Alec didn’t do anything wrong,” Dyer said in a statement.

“The real question that needs to be answered is how did the live rounds happen on the sets in the first place,” he added.
