All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has announced more than one lakh internship opportunities for aspiring students. It will be provided by companies like Salesforce, Cisco, Mahatma Gandhi National Council for Rural Education (MGNCRE) and RSB Transmission India Limited. The council says this is being done to “build a skilled workforce”. The announcement was made by Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on March 31 at Shastri Bhawan.
In this regard, AICTE has created an internship portal – internship.aicte-india.org, “to facilitate students to get suitable internship opportunities to integrate classroom knowledge and theory with practical application,” AICTE claimed in the press release.
Inaugurating the internship scheme, Pradhan said, “Let me take this opportunity to congratulate the companies for their contribution towards nation building. It is commendable that they have taken up the responsibility of training the college going engineering and humanities students. We We want to increase the Gross Enrollment Ratio from 27 per cent to 65 per cent. I am happy that with the launch of this programme, the wheels of the National Education Policy 2020 are turning. Every mature economy needs a skilled workforce. There is a lot of emphasis on creation in the budget of the year and I think such programs will help in creating skilled workforce.
“It is very exciting that we are signing one lakh internship opportunities. Here is a common link with all these companies. Salesforce does customer relations, and all of our students should learn that. Cisco is in the business of networking and cyber security. Networking and customer relations are powerful tools for generating employment and entrepreneurship. Third is Transmission (RSB) which we implement in rural India along with MGNCRE to make our villages self-reliant and drive the economy. I hope everyone will get benefit from this platform and I would also urge companies to increase internship opportunities on year to year basis,” said Professor Anil Sahasrabuddhe, Chairman, AICTE.
