A positive information is coming out in the midst of the ongoing tension on the LAC between India and China, which has been going on for the last nearly one year. China has agreed to withdraw from 2 of the 3 disputed points in eastern Ladakh. The 12th round of meeting between senior commanders of India and China was held on Saturday. In this, the commanders of the Indian Army strongly objected to the presence of China in 3 disputed points Hot Spring, Gogra and Depsang.

The conversation lasted for about 12 hours. In this, the Chinese army agreed to retreat from Hot Spring and Gogra Point. Both these areas are known as Patrol Point 15 and Patrol Point 17-Alpha.

According to army sources, an action plan for the withdrawal of the Chinese army from these two areas was also prepared in the meeting. However, no consensus could be reached on the disputed area of Depsang. The talks started at 10 am at a post built in Moldo area of China. The meeting was attended by 14 Corps Commander Lt Gen PGK Menon and Additional Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs Naveen Srivastava. The agenda was clear from India’s side that China would have to retreat in the face-to-face deployment areas.

If China does not agree to Depsang, India will deploy soldiers in the Kailash range
China is not ready to back down from Depsang. Here the patrol of the Indian Army is being stopped at Patrol Point 10, 11, 11-alpha, PP-12 and PP-13. This area is just 30 km from Daulat Beg Oldi and Karakoram Range, India’s highest airstrip. is far. If China remains adamant, the Indian Army can deploy soldiers in the Kailash range. Our soldiers have practiced it. China’s Western Highway will not be very far from these bases.

Disputes in these 12 areas: Samar Lungpa, Depsang, Point 6556, Changlang Nala, Kongka La, Damchok, Trig Heights, Pangong Tso North End, Spangur Gap, Sajun Peak 129m, Damchele and Chumar.

These 5 new points also added: Shyok Sula, Recchin La, Rezang La, Km 120 in Galwan, PP-15 and PP-17 Alpha.

Why Hot Springs and Gogra are important for India

  • To assert its supremacy on the LAC, the Indian Army patrols up to 65 patrol points, which is decided by the China Study Group, the apex policy regulatory body.
  • When China increased troops on the LAC in May 2020, PP-15 and PP-17 were 4 friction points out of Alpha 4. Here’s a face-to-face deployment.
  • Both the points are around Chang Chenmo river in Galwan sub-sector. The hot spring is north of Chang Chenmo and east of Gogra Post.
  • This area is to the north of the Karakoram Range, to the north of Pangong Tso and to the southeast of the Galwan Valley. This is the valley where 20 Indian soldiers were martyred in the bloody skirmish between the soldiers of India and China.
