India at Tokyo Olympics Day 9 live updates: Golfers Udayan Mane and Anirban Lahiri

4:05 am (golf): Udayan Mane resumed action in the men’s individual strokeplay in Round 4. Mane carded 70 for 55th on the previous day at 2-over 215. Round 3 was completed with a split start from the 1st and 10th tee.

4:00 am: On a gloomy Day 8, India’s badminton ace PV Sindhu lost in the semi-finals and boxer Pooja Rani crashed out of bronze. Sindhu was defeated by Tai Tzu-ying of Chinese Taipei, while Rani lost in the quarterfinals to second seed and 2016 Rio Olympics bronze medalist Li Qian in the women’s middleweight category. Amit Panghal also lost 1-4 to Rio Games silver medalist Ubergen Martinez.

The stars of the day were undoubtedly the women’s hockey team and Kamalpreet Kaur. Rani Rampal’s team defeated South Africa 4-3 to enter the quarter-finals. Kaur also produced one of the best performances by an Indian track and field athlete at the Games.

Very little action from India on Day 9 will be led by Sindhu, who will play her bronze medal match to secure her second Olympic honour. Sindhu faces He Bing Xiao of China, an opponent who has defeated the Indian nine times in 15 meetings so far. Satish Kumar will also face Uzbekistan’s Bakhodir Jalolov in the quarterfinals. The Indian men’s hockey team, which is vying for a semi-final spot in the quadrennial event after a gap of 41 years, will take on Great Britain in the quarter-finals. This is what you can expect from the Indian contingent on Sunday, August 1.
