India has voted in favor of UN security Council Resolved to exempt sanctions for humanitarian aid Afghanistan, underlining that the Council should exercise its oversight over the distribution of aid as well as avoid any possible diversion of funds.
“India supports the proposal to exempt Afghanistan from sanctions for humanitarian aid,” India’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador TS Tirumurti said on Wednesday. “It is important that aid is extended and unhindered access is provided to the United Nations and other agencies. In this context, India has supported the call of the international community for direct and unhindered access to humanitarian aid for Afghanistan. Should be
“Help should reach the most vulnerable first, including women, children and minorities,” he said. He said there are reports that suggest more than half the population is facing emergency levels of distress or severe food insecurity.
“As Afghanistan’s largest regional development partner, India looks forward to coordinating with other stakeholders to work towards enabling the expeditious provision of much-needed assistance to the people of Afghanistan,” he said.
