External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar talks to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken

US Secretary of State Tony Blinken on Monday spoke to his Indian counterpart S Jaishankar about the recent developments in Afghanistan. The Taliban on Sunday seized the last major city outside Kabul occupied by the country’s central government, cutting off the Afghan capital to the east. After the collapse of the remaining two cities, Mazar-e-Sharif and Jalalabad, overnight, Taliban insurgents began marching towards Kabul.

State Department spokesman Ned Price said the two top diplomats discussed the situation in Afghanistan.

Soon after, India’s External Affairs Minister Jaishankar tweeted, “Discussed the latest developments in Afghanistan with @SecBlinken. Underscored the urgency to restore airport operations in Kabul. The depth of ongoing US efforts in this regard.” Appreciate from.”

The UNSC on Monday called for an immediate end to all hostilities in Afghanistan and the establishment of a new government that is united, inclusive and representative.

In a press statement, UNSC President TS Tirumurti said that the members of the Security Council called for an immediate end to violence in Afghanistan, restoration of security, civil and constitutional order.

Earlier on Monday, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke to Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov regarding the security situation in Afghanistan.

The Taliban entered Kabul on Sunday and captured the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Soon after the terrorist group claimed control of the Afghan capital, several countries evacuated their diplomatic personnel, and hundreds gathered at Kabul airport in an attempt to leave Afghanistan.
