Adult film racket case: Court denies interim protection from arrest to Gehna Vashisht

MumbaiA Mumbai court on Tuesday (August 3) refused interim protection from arrest to Gehana Vashistha in an alleged adult film racket case. Raj Kundra, husband of Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty, has been arrested in the same case, which relates to production and dissemination of obscene material on mobile app.

A PTI report said the court denied Gehna interim protection from arrest, saying the allegations against the actress are of “serious nature”.

Last week, the Mumbai Crime Branch had registered a fresh FIR in an alleged porn case in which the makers of Gehna Vashisht and Raj Kundra’s company were named.

Police officials registered a case when an actress approached him, alleging that she was forced to shoot a pornographic film for the Hotshots app.

The FIR was registered under several sections of the IPC, the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act and provisions of the IT Act.

Gehna had filed an anticipatory bail application before the Additional Sessions Judge in view of the possibility of arrest in the case. The court has fixed the matter for hearing on Friday (August 6). It refused to give any interim relief to the ‘Gandii Baat’ actress till then.

“The allegations in the present FIR are of serious nature that the accused forcing the other victim to do kissing scenes and sex scenes. In view of such allegations and circumstances, I do not even find a fit case for granting this interim relief,” Quoted as stated by the court as stated by PTI.

The crime branch of the Mumbai Police had registered a case in February 2021 related to the production and dissemination of adult films through mobile applications. Police officials arrested Raj Kundra on July 19 under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

Kundra’s aide Ryan Thorpe was arrested on July 20. Both are currently in judicial custody.

A team of Crime Branch Cell had recorded the statement of Shilpa Shetty as part of its investigation in the case. He reportedly questioned the ‘Hungama 2’ actress for over five hours at her residence in Mumbai. According to an IANS report, Shetty said that she was unaware of the content available on the Hotshots app.
