Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury to continue as leader of Congress party in Lok Sabha: Sources

New Delhi: Putting an end to the speculations of change in the post of the leader of the Congress party in the Lok Sabha, top party sources have made it clear that there will be no change at the moment. Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury will continue to be the leader of the Congress party in the Lok Sabha during the upcoming monsoon parliamentary session.

An official source in the Congress party told ABP News, “With less than a week left for the Parliament session, it is not possible to change the leader of the party in the Lok Sabha.”

Adhir Ranjan will also be present in the meeting of the “Parliamentary Strategy Group” convened by Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday evening to prepare the strategy for the monsoon session.

Keeping his seniority in mind, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, MP from Murshidabad in West Bengal, was made the leader of the party in the 17th Lok Sabha elected by the Congress leadership in 2019.

Before the West Bengal assembly elections, Adhir Ranjan was once again given the command of Bengal Congress. Since then, on the basis of the “one person one post” formula, there were speculations that the Congress might change the leader of the party in the Lok Sabha.

However, in the last winter session and the budget session, Adhir Ranjan remained the leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha. But after the humiliating defeat of the Congress in the West Bengal elections, people were speculating that Adhir would be removed as the leader of the Congress party in the Lok Sabha.

There were speculations of Ravneet Bittu, Manish Tewari, Shashi Tharoor and Gaurav Gogoi in his place. However, top Congress sources have put an end to these speculations. But the question still remains whether Congress can replace Adhir Ranjan with a new face as the leader of the party in Lok Sabha in future.
