AAP to attend giant opposition meeting in Bengaluru: MP Raghav Chadha

Opposition meeting: After the Congress extended its clear support to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on the Delhi ordinance issue, AAP leader Raghav Chadha on Sunday announced that the party will participate in the next massive opposition meeting in Bengaluru.

Addressing the media, the AAP MLA said that the Aam Aadmi Party under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal will participate in a meeting of like-minded parties in Bengaluru on July 17-18.

The Congress on Sunday extended its unequivocal support to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on the Delhi ordinance issue.

Taking up the matter on Twitter, Chadha wrote, “Congress declares its categorical opposition to the Delhi Ordinance. This is a positive development.”

Congress leader Pawan Kheda said, “The Congress party will oppose the Centre’s ordinance on the Delhi government.”

Senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram has suggested that in time a “leader of the united opposition” will emerge. He also expressed disappointment over the way the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) raised the Delhi ordinance issue during the opposition meeting in Patna.

During the meeting, the stand of the Congress party on the Delhi Ordinance issue created considerable disagreement among the opposition members. The AAP criticized the Congress for not supporting the Delhi government on the matter.

Chidambaram’s remarks indicate that the Congress party is still working towards finding a unified opposition leader who can effectively represent the collective interests of the opposition parties. However, he expressed dissatisfaction over the approach adopted by AAP in addressing the Delhi ordinance issue during the meeting.

The differences between the opposition parties on some issues highlight the challenges in achieving a unified stand on various issues. Nonetheless, the search for a united opposition leader and collaborative approach remains an ongoing process.

The AAP had said in a statement, “The Congress’s hesitation and refusal to act as a team player will make it very difficult for the AAP to be part of any coalition, including the Congress.”

The first opposition meeting took place on 23 June, in which 17 parties decided to fight unitedly in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections to defeat the saffron party.

Addressing the meeting after a four-hour meeting of opposition parties, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said that leaders of all the 17 parties would meet again in the near future to chalk out the final strategy for the polls.

Kumar said the meeting was successful and many leaders expressed their views keeping aside differences. “The 17 parties have come to a conclusion that they will fight the upcoming Lok Sabha polls unitedly,” he said.
