Dinesh Karthik Argues That KL Rahul Can Be Considered As The Backup Wicketkeeper For World Test Championship Final

KL Rahul’s dismal performance in international cricket has grabbed headlines in recent weeks. After a disappointing performance in the first two matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Rahul was replaced by Shubman Gill in the Indore Test. Gill grabbed this opportunity with both hands and scored a brilliant century in Ahmedabad. Now it looks like Rahul’s return to India’s playing XI may be difficult. The Indian team management might back Gill after his brilliant innings under pressure against the mighty Aussies. Veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik has shared his view on KL Rahul’s chances of reclaiming his place in Team India ahead of the ICC World Test Championship final.

Speaking to Cricbuzz, Karthik said that Rahul can be considered as the backup wicketkeeper for the World Test Championship final.

“I will see how Rahul feels because KL is not someone who enjoys keeping in Test cricket as it is a completely different ball game. But I will definitely keep it in my mind, Karthik was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

He said that Shubman Gill has cemented his place in the Test team and “he will be around for a long time”.

He said, “I would definitely go with Shubman Gill, no doubt about it. This guy scored a century in the last Test before the WTC final. You get the feeling that Shubman Gill is going to last. He is a tall horse.” He is one you want to put your money on and say ‘I want to see him still opening for India in 2033’.

Shubman Gill has definitely repaid the faith of the selectors by scoring a brilliant century in the series decider against Australia. Gill is likely to open for India in the upcoming ICC World Test Championship final. Rohit Sharma-led India will take on Australia in the final of the second edition of the World Test Championship. The high-stakes match will be played from June 7 to June 11 at The Oval, London with a reserve day.
