26 years of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge: When Kajol called Simran boring but relatable

Last year, as the film completed its silver jubilee, Kajol spoke to Filmfare and revealed how she feels about her character in the film. The actor told entertainment magazine that he thought Simran was a bit “boring to be honest”, but he recognized her. Talking about how the character was quite relatable, Kajol said that she felt that there is a lot of Simran in almost everyone.

The 47-year-old actress said that many people don’t do the right thing even if they want to do it. Describing Simran’s thought process as a fictional character, Kajol said, “You want to get that acceptance, you want to feel that you are approved and you are doing something right in the world.” Simran was exactly that for Kajol. He and she thought the character was just good, a little old-fashioned but good.

Talking about the film produced by Yash Raj Productions, Kajol described it as “timeless” because, according to her, everyone identifies with Simran and Raj down the line. Kajol speculates that the audience loved the characters and loved them for years and years. She further added that the film is one of those things that one has always liked and probably will always like.
