Avalanche continues to fall from the peak of Pir Panjal in Keylong, Lahaul Spiti, Himachal. Avalanche came in Dimru drain from Pir Panjal hill near Thirot on Monday. The flow of the river stopped for some time after the entire debris of the avalanche fell into the Chenab river.
A teacher posted at a government school in the area captured the video of the avalanche on his mobile phone. This video is going viral now.
Jagdish, former head of Thirot panchayat, told that in the afternoon, a big avalanche came from the Pir Panjal hill on the left bank of the village towards the Dimru drain. During the avalanche, a lot of debris of the mountain got absorbed in the Chenab river flowing below. And the snowstorm reached the village.
Due to the debris that came with the avalanche, the flow of Chenab river stopped for some time. However after that the water made its way. There was no loss of life or property due to this avalanche.
Avalanches common after snowfall
Jagdish told that in the month of January alone, more than 24 avalanches have occurred on the hills of Pir Panjal. Avalanches are common on mountains in the area after snowfall. However, there is a need to be very careful during this.
