The Netherlands returned from 64/5 to reach the target of 250 with one extra delivery to spare and take a 1–0 lead in the three-match ODI series.

Teja Nidamanuru’s brilliant maiden ODI hundred helped the Netherlands beat Zimbabwe by three wickets in the last over in the first of the three matches on Tuesday.

Zimbabwe recovered from a poor start to score 249 in Harare and the Dutch, who were struggling at 64 for five and then 110 for six, secured their first win since 2014 when Paul van Meekeren Smashes the penalty ball for a six.

The India-born Nidamanuru hit three sixes and nine fours in his ninth ODI to finish unbeaten on 110 off 96 balls.

However, he took advantage of two missed chances before reaching his century as Zimbabwe struggled in the field.

Van Meekeren was also dropped in the last over by former England batsman Gary Ballance, who is now playing for his native Zimbabwe.

Former South African Under-19 international Colin Ackermann scored a brilliant 50, while Shariz Ahmed (30) and van Meekeren (21 not out) were the other Dutch batsmen to help turn an unlikely defeat into a surprise win.

The tourists were in trouble at 64 for five when Nidamanuru turned the situation around by sharing 46 with Ackerman and 110 with Ahmed.

Ndamanuru batted at number seven, and so did Zimbabwe’s Clive Madande, whose 72 in only his fourth ODI turned the innings around to 98 for seven.

Madande hit six fours in 98 balls and was caught at first slip by captain and rival wicketkeeper Scott Edwards off Fred Klaasen.

After this, Netherlands will play two more ODIs against South Africa on 31 March and 2 April.
